How To Make Studying Fun

It’s no unknown fact that studying is extremely boring. Even if you know it’s going towards a good cause (your grades), you don’t want to study. But, there are ways to make studying fun that ensure you learn the material while also having a good time. And, if you want to test some of them out, then keep reading!

Deck of cards

Grab a deck of cards and make sure they’re shuffled. Lay them face down on your desk and take the first one off the top. Multiply the number that you got by 5 (if you want less study time) or 10 (if you want more study time), and, study a certain subject for that long. Then, once the timer is up, no more studying that topic! This method forces you to work hard for a short period of time, so that you know the end is somewhat in sight, but you have to persist to get there.

Wait for the ice to melt

Similar to the last method, this is all about you working for a set period of time. Grab an ice cube (or two) from your freezer, and put them on some sort of dish (so that water doesn’t spill everywhere). Complete assignments or study a subject until the ice cube(s) melt, and once they do, move on to something new. Don’t have an ice cube? Light a candle and wait for it to melt or even play a video of some sort of ‘special’ countdown.

Teach your friends

The best way to remember material is by teaching it to someone else, and there’s a special fun in that when it’s with your friends. Hop on a FaceTime call and have everyone take a subject or concept. Then, teach the others that idea, so that you’re practicing and learning at the same time. The calm/familiar environment creates a better setting to ask for help or can just make sure that you understand material a little better.

Good ol’ fashioned review games

When did Kahoot stop being fun? Chances are, your answer is “never.” Set up a game and play with a few friends, even if you think you outgrew the review games you used to play. You’ll end up remembering concepts better by turning it into a game like this; and, you’re still hanging out with your friends.

Act it out

No matter how silly it may seem, acting out the material—whether by yourself or with friends—can give your brain a stronger way to remember it. If you’re studying science, pretend you’re a scientist first discovering the concept. If you’re reading a book, act like you’re one of the characters. The opportunities are endless! As strange as it can be, a memory like that will help your brain cling onto information.

Life is what you make it, and that extends to studying! If you force yourself to sit at a desk and read a textbook, you’re going to get bored very quickly. But, if you turn it into a game and put a little fun into it, then you’ll end up a much happier student. And, if you liked this, check out our other posts below or in the Blog page.
