Whether you‘re alert and awake from the time your alarm goes off or you want to get rid of your alarm altogether, mornings can feel like a lot (especially on a school day). Between getting ready, stressing about an upcoming test, or just trying to get 5 more minutes of sleep, we often don’t have the healthiest mornings, both for our bodies and our brains. But, a few actions every day can fix this and set you up for success.
Introducing: micro habits
These types of habits are the little things that can make life a lot more pleasant. They don’t require much from you and don’t take long to complete, making them the perfect way to reach goals or start the day off well. We split this post into a few different categories so that you can pick and choose what works best for you!
Physical health
Stretch for a few minutes - warming up your body will get it awake and ready for the day.
Short walk outside - see the sun (or, if it’s still dark out, moon), feel fresh air, and take in your surroundings in a short period.
Apply sunscreen - the potent smell of sunscreen and its connection to being outside and in the sun wakes your brain up, as well as your body.
Mental health
Don’t go on your phone for 10 minutes - give your eyes a few minutes to wake up before shoving your phone in your face.
Write down 3 things you’re grateful for - acknowledging the good in your life and the people, places, or things that help you will put you into a positive mood.
Say a positive affirmation - no matter how cliché, you know that you like to hear good things about yourself, so make that happen!
Nutrition
Drink a cup of water - after not drinking water throughout the night, your body is dehydrated. Wake it up with a fresh glass of water.
Take your vitamins/supplements - just this simple action is keeping your body healthy and getting you ready for the day.
Have an easy breakfast - don’t overwhelm yourself or your body with a huge breakfast, just have something light but filling.
Productivity
Make your bed - even if you don’t do anything else for the rest of the day, at least you made your bed and were able to check something off of your list
Create a top 3 - what are three things you need to get done today or are wanting to do?
Review your schedule - know what’s coming for the day, but don’t start working just yet—just ‘warm up.’
No matter what you choose to do, having a few daily micro habits will wake you up and get you ready for the day in a non-overwhelming way. It’s all about taking baby steps so that you can have a leisurely morning that leads to a successful day. And, if you liked this, check out our other posts below or in the Blog page.
