It’s that time again! Whether you’re just starting middle school or taking your last lap of high school, your backpack plays a crucial role in your education. And, if you start the year with your backpack organized, you’ll set that habit for later on. So, let’s get your backpack ready for the school year using just the essentials.

Pencils & Pens
We know, we know: obviously. But, regardless of how many things happen online in the classroom, there will come a time when your teacher asks you to have a pencil; and, will give you a very disapproving look when you don’t. Whether you don’t have one altogether or it’s lost in the depths of your bag, we’re going to combat this problem with a simple step. Almost every backpack has a designated area to store pencils and pens, and you should use it! Take two pencils and two pens and put them in this spot—problem solved. You’ll be able to keep track of your writing utensils in an easily accessible way, and you’ll know when you need to restock.
Folders
Sure, it might be more efficient to put papers right into your backpack, but if you want them

to stay clean, a folder is the right move. We like to organize ours into ‘Home’ and ‘School,’ for what you need to take home and what you need to bring back to school. It’s easy to keep your papers from getting crumpled; just take a few minutes to find or order a folder and use a pen to label each side. It’ll help you in the long run and your backpack won’t feel as messy, too.
Chargers
On the opposite end of the pencils and folders spectrum, we have chargers.

By the end of the school day, your device can run pretty low, but you still need it to power through. Instead of interrupting the class by asking around to borrow someone else’s, just bring your own. We challenge you to—right now—go search for the cord that works with your device and put it in your backpack. Even if you don’t end up using it, it’ll be nice to know that you have one ready in a time of need.
Now, this was just our suggestions for the bare minimum of what should be in your backpack. Of course, you’ll also need your textbooks, devices, and notebooks, but those are much easier to keep tidy. Remember, it’s never too early to get organized, and your backpack is only the start.
