It might seem random, but these little sheets of paper can be of massive assistance for school. And, it’s always good to know another study trick, so lets get into our three suggestions for what to do with an index card.
Puzzle Pieces
Index cards are great for vocabulary, but they can also help with cause and effect relationships between certain things. You can cut an index card in half to make it

like a puzzle piece, and then, write certain things that match on each side. Doing this can help study for English (plot, characters, etc), history (event and date), and even math (formula and its name). And, if you do this a few times, you can play a matching game with certain pieces of information. We showed our recommendation for this in the picture to the right.
Scribble Studying
In this method of studying, which we talked about in a previous blog post, you write down all of the information you can recall about a topic. Index cards are great for this because they allow you to group parts together—drawings vs information, terms vs definition, etc. On the blank side, you can write the general concept or a model, for example, and on the other side, you can go more in depth. Do this for each concept, and you’ll have a whole collection of little tidbits of information.
Tracking
Index cards are also helpful when trying to track a piece of information. On the blank side, write what you want to record, like if you read a book on a day or not. Then, on the back, you write the days of a month and check off the ones where you reached that goal. Another idea is tracking test grades for a class, where you write the class’ name on the blank side and the tests you took (and your grade) on the lined side. Index cards can function as a mini journal, where you’re able to keep track of certain parts of your life in a smaller format.
Index cards can be a massive helper in school, and hopefully, these three tips will help you use them a little more often. And, if you liked this, check out our other posts below or in the Blog Page.
