How To Organize Your Gmail

Your Gmail is probably full of spam, clutter, and other random emails that make it impossible to find anything. And, while this isn’t uncommon, it also isn’t that functional. It’s possible for your inbox to be completely empty, and we’re going to show you how!

Labels, labels, labels

The first step to cleaning up your inbox is by sorting your emails, and that starts with labels. This isn’t exclusive to Gmail—all email services have a way to organize emails into different places, and it’s super easy to do! All you have to do is create a few. Click “create new” towards the bottom of the menu bar and type in what you want to call your label. Click “save,” and then you’ll already have one. Repeat this action for all of the categories of mail you get and want to sort. Then, start moving things into each label by clicking the 3 dots in the top right corner, selecting “move,” and choosing where you want it to go. This is the easiest way to keep your email clean—just remember to do this whenever you get mail.

Don’t be scared of the trash

If there’s something that can’t be sorted into a label and isn’t that important, then you don’t need to keep it! Every promotional email or piece of spam doesn’t need to stay in your inbox, and in fact, it’s better to get rid of it. It’ll help you use less storage and make sure that only important things are what you’re seeing when you open Gmail.

Keep it consistent

You have to get into the habit of sending mail to a label or deleting what you don’t need to keep your Gmail clean. An empty inbox is fully obtainable, but it’s up to you to move emails into different labels and get rid of spam. By doing these two things, your Gmail will look much cleaner.

It’s not hard to get organized, so take some time and clean up. Tidying up your Gmail is a great activity for a long plane ride, road trip, or other long period of time, and you’ll thank yourself later. And, if you liked this post, be sure to check out our others below or in the Blog page.
