If you’re like any student waking up at the crack of dawn for school, you probably just want to go back to bed. While the sad reality is that we can’t give you another few hours, we can tell you how to make yourself actually wake up in the morning, so that you can be just a little more ready to start your day.
Brain games
To get your body awake, your brain needs to be awake! And, what better way to do this than through a few brain games? Wordle, Connections, or a crossword puzzle are all great ways to wake your brain up, and by association, wake you up. Plus, if you’re playing on your phone or device, the blue light that’s produced suppresses melatonin, your sleep hormone.
Stretching
Right when you’re alarm goes off, get out of bed and take a stretch. It doesn’t need to be a full-on workout, but shake out parts of your body—if you get your body ready for the day, you’ll be ready for the day. Try touching your toes or doing just a few jumping jacks. Alternatively, once you’re a little more acclamated to the day, stand or walk around outside for a few minutes.
Skincare
Putting something on your face will, no surprise, wake your face up. Even just a face wipe or some moisturizer will do the job, because you’re only trying to open up your eyes a little more. The whole morning skincare routine can wait a few minutes, you’re just getting started right now!
Make your bed
Once you get out of bed, make the bed! This way, you’ll be less tempted to crawl back into it. Plus, you will have already accomplished something that morning, setting you on a path to keep being productive for the rest of the day.
Drink water and eat food
Put something into your system so that you’re less likely to go back to sleep. Just like the rest of your body, once you wake up your insides, your outsides will follow. Even a single glass of water—preferably cold—will put you in a place to stay awake and alert.
Now, it’s up to you to mix and match! Pick your favorite habits and set up a morning routine that’s guaranteed to keep you awake. Maybe play Wordle and make the bed, or drink a glass of water and stand outside for a minute; the opportunities are endless.
