How To Get On a Teacher’s Good Side

It’s no unknown fact that classes are a little more bearable when you’re close with the teacher. And, while every teacher is different, there are a few guaranteed ways to give yourself a few brownie points and climb your way up their ladder.

  1. Interact in class

No one likes to sit through a class that’s practically dead. And, by the same token, no teacher wants to teach a class full of students who don’t care. If you can look like you‘re paying attention (even if you‘re not), take good notes, and ask questions, you will show the teacher that you actually care about what they’re teaching. And, you’ll be able to separate yourself from the rest of the class, making yourself more recognizable and known.

  1. Engage in conversation

When a teacher greets you at the door or asks how your day is going, don’t just shrug it off. Answer their question or say hi back to them. It’s the little things that go a long way, and it’s things like these that show that you see your teacher as a person, not just an educator.

  1. Go to office hours

Even if you’re not completely confused, it can still help you to go to your teacher’s extra help. It will show that you care enough to take time out of your day for their class and that you‘re genuinely interested in the material. Plus, you’ll get a more individualized lesson, which can help you with information, regardless of if you were confused or not.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s the little details that can set you apart from the rest of the students. Demonstrating interest and participation can help your teachers like you more than they otherwise would, and it’s always better to be liked by a teacher than hated.
