It’s no surprise that we don’t all learn the same, but many people don’t know how to take advantage of these styles. Learning isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ activity, so by knowing how you can learn the most efficiently, you’ll set yourself up for success.
What are learning types?
Similar to personalities, there are different variations of ways that people can take in information, called learning types or multiple intelligences. You can see which of the eight categories you fall into by taking this quiz.
Bodily/Kinesthetic
These people learn with their bodies. Instead of sitting still and taking notes, these learners move around to take in information.
Musical
These people learn from music. To memorize things, it’s easier to repeatedly listen to a song, and their brains can recall certain voices, tones, or rhythms.
Logical/Mathematical
These people learn from numbers and equations. Instead of learning content line by line, these people can visualize information as certain things being equal to other things, or by a series of numbers that make sense.
Interpersonal
These people learn with others. Instead of working alone, they like to practice with study groups, and work most efficiently when surrounded with peers.
Intrapersonal
Contrary to interpersonal learners, these people like working alone. Instead of studying with groups or friends, they find it easier to learn or finish tasks by themselves.
Linguistic
These people learn by hearing new content. Rather than reading a textbook, these people like to be taught by a teacher or video as a way to listen to information.
Spatial/Visual
Last but not least, spatial learners learn by visualizing things. They can remember graphs, charts, maps, or other displays of information, instead of just blocks of text.
What does this all mean?
Now that you know your learning style and what it means, you’ll be able to study in a way that personally benefits you. There is no one or the other, so by mixing your learning types, you can come up with a custom way to learn and review.
